April 20th-Day 21

This was my earliest start to my day since we went out to catch the Aurora or Northern Lights at 12:30am. We, Cass, Adam, Matt, Katherine, Paz, Hannah, Parker, Madison, and I piled into the car and headed towards the northern side of Douglas Island. Eventually we ended up at the spot and started to explore the area or set up cameras. Myself, Cass, Adam, Katherine, and Hannah went to check out the dock and we found ourselves a dead dungeness crab floating in the water. Shockingly, I got down and picked it up out of the water and started examining it, to both the horror and delight of my group. After taking a few pictures of the catch we headed back up with the rest of the crew and sat and waited for the lights. A few of us southern east coasters headed into the car since it was too cold for us and there was nothing happening. It turned out today was a bust and we headed home around 2am. I had to wake up at 7:30 to get ready for CDL training and that was a bit of an issue today. One of my guides decided that I did not get all of the necessary training I needed for the test and that I was going to test next week instead of this Saturday. I was kinda happy about this since I didn’t feel confident, but also bummed that I have to wait.

When I got back to the apartment Hannah taught and helped me fix my backpack with a sewing and embroidery class. Then we got invited to thrift again with another group and off we went.

Do I need anything at the store? No. Am I here for the ride? Yes.

After getting home, since it was such a nice day I wanted to go out and run. So I put on shorts, YES, I said SHORTS, and a zip up and went for a run. Turns out the temperature outside was a nice 55 degrees, perfect for running! In total I ran 3.5 to 4 miles, and walked 1.0-1.5 miles, which totaled up to 5 miles. It was tough but I'm glad I persevered.

As a reward, Cass had some ripe avocados available, and I made guac for us and Hannah. While making guac I got a call from Madison that a bear was right outside our house. The three of us ran outside and found our group of coworkers watching the bear eat someone's trash in the woods across the street from the complex. It was a small black bear we would end up giving the nickname Trash bear. It slowed down after that and so we decided to put on a movie. Hannah encouraged the movie Pirates of the Caribbean due to her coining the phrase “Hello Poppet”, anytime someone stopped by. By the end of the day I was unconsciously saying the phrase as well. During the movie Parker and Katherine stopped by and Katherine was teaching me how to crochet. I picked up some yarn the day prior while thrifting, so now I just have to learn how to crochet. We stopped the movie after Hannah’s phrase was said since we were all tired, and we all got ready for bed.

I ended up staying up longer than I hoped to. Just as I finally got to bed, set my alarm, and closed my eyes, I received a group message that Paz and Adam can see the Northern Lights from their apartment(they live right above Cass and I) and that they were leaving in 5 mins to North Douglas. It was 1am, and I had an Educational class that started at 7:45am. Three words.

Adventure was calling.
