April 1st- Day 2
The next day I was able to move into my new apartments and get to know a few of the Gastineau guiding seasoned members. Scott introduced us to the Owners of the company as well as their kids, and anyone else he could spot. Katie is the daughter of the owners and she was the project manager for the apartments that I and 20 others are going to be living in over the summer. All the apartments were being redone completely, and construction was behind and currently happening on the apartments. I didn't know what to expect, but nice, clean, modern apartments were not what I was expecting( the apartments were also furnished and came with plates, silverware, cleaning supplies, and other small essentials). My parents helped move my luggage and I started organizing and getting my stuff situated. Next we wanted to go shopping for food and other small items that the apartment needed. Before we left Dad was asked to be a human tape measure to make sure staircases and overhangs had enough space between them, and to confirm they were up to code.
Fred Meyers was a magical place that neither I nor my parents have ever been to. It was like a Kroger(grocery store), Walmart, Bed, Bath,& Beyond, and Kohls combined and made a giant store. This place has everything I could ever need, things I thought they wouldn't have up in Alaska, but it was here. There was a catch though, most things had a larger price tag attached to them. For example a 10 pack of hangers would be $1.25 in Georgia or North Carolina, but here it was $10 for 10 hangers. Another example was a can of black beans being $2 when I am used to buying them closer to a dollar. After a restock of food and other items we were able to spend the last night together at the Rangers house.
I also forgot to mention that it felt like/looked like my parents were moving me into college again. The small difference being that they were no longer a 3 hour drive away, it was more like a 3000 mile journey. In the morning I would be saying goodbye to my parents and starting this adventure in Alaska by myself.
These are pictures of my apartment that was newly done! Also I have never seen a full bunk bed in my life before, but now I reside on the top bunk.
