April 18th- Day 19th

Today started with an early morning CDL training session with Scott from 9am-12pm. This was going to be our last day together, since he was going back to Georgia for a Learning Seminar in the Smoky Mountains. We worked on skills with cones, like backing up from the center, left, and right and then weaving between cones. I had no troubles with backing up, but weaving between was surprisingly difficult for me. Turns out that the cones were 10 feet apart instead of being 30 feet so that was the big reason why I was hitting so many cones, this was funny after the fact and not during this training session.

After training was complete I saw in our group chat that people were about to go hiking , so I went home, packed a bag for hiking, and jumped in a car headed for the Perseverance Trail. The weather was clear, sunny, and kind of warm for Juneau so I wanted to get out and enjoy this weather. The people included were Paz, Adam, Matt, Ben, Zane, Katherine, Kelsey, Hannah, and I. This trail is located in the city part of Juneau towards the upper end of the mountains, like you start the trail between Mt. Juneau and Mt. Roberts. While walking in you feel so small and insignificant, the mountains just come up and really put life in perspective. This was a very different hike than the other ones I have been going on lately. It started off in a forest and we worked our way up a mountainside for a little bit. There were steep cliffs to be careful of as well as a river that had blue pools scattered along its curves. While we were walking we started hearing this thunderous booming noise, and quickly looked up at the peaks of the mountains, luckily it was a waterfall that got clogged with ice/released a large amount of ice instead of an avalanche. The group and I hiked in two miles or so and then decided to head off the path to explore and chill at the riverside. Some people in the group did a polar plunge into the river, I think it was four people. I did not participate personally, but one fellow, Paz, jumped in and lost his glasses. After a 30 minute search for the glasses we headed back home with haste.

When I got back I went on a short hike to Sandy beach and back, just to catch up with my parents, and then started dinner. I made rice in a pot for the first time in a pot(I'm used to a rice cooker) and I made it correctly, because it was delicious. I was for sure missing rice without even knowing it. Cass and I finished the night by finishing Season 1 of RPDR, and then headed to bed.

A picture of a waterfall we could spot on a hike. I think Mt. Juneau is in the background.

(L⟶R) Katherine, Me, and Kelsey enjoying the sun by one of the swimming holes. Kelsey was one of the few brave people to jump in!

(L→R) Matt, Ben, and Adam looking for Paz's glasses that were lost in the swimming hole.

I had to document my first time being outside and wearing a short sleeve shirt, even if it was for 10 minutes. It didn't last long, but it still felt like a small victory.
